On Wednesday, January 27, 2010, Steven Romero was arraigned in federal court and pled not guilty to a charge of aggravated animal cruelty in the case of Buddy, a dog allegedly dragged to death behind a truck on federal land in the Colorado National Monument. About a dozen demonstrators demanding justice for Buddy stood on the steps outside the Wayne N. Aspinall federal building in Grand Junction, Colorado, during the hearing.
